Chris Knick, Principal

Mr. Knick, Principal of Dan River Middle

Christopher Knick, a native of Callands, VA, was an honor graduate of Chatham High School in 1995 and a cum laude graduate from Averett College in 1999 with a double major in Mathematics and Computer Science while also playing four years for the Averett College Cougar baseball team. Mr. Knick began his teaching career in 1999 teaching mathematics for Danville Public Schools while also coaching baseball and football at George Washington High School.

In 2003, Mr. Knick earned a Master of Education Degree with a concentration in mathematics from Averett University. He began teaching dual enrollment Precalculus and Statistics at the Piedmont Governor’s School for Mathematics, Science in the fall of 2003. Mr. Knick returned to teach Advanced Precalculus and the first AP Statistics course at George Washington High School in the fall of 2012. In 2014, Mr. Knick earned an Education Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership from Liberty University. Mr. Knick served as Mathematics Department Chair at GW from 2013-2016. He used data driven decisions, common assessments and worked with a dedicated math team to keep GWHS accredited in mathematics.

Mr. Knick began his administrative career in 2016 as assistant principal of Dan River Middle School. He will work closely with Ms. Bunn to ensure Dan River Middle School is a safe, clean, nurturing, and challenging environment for all students.

Mr. Knick lives in Dry Fork, VA with his two children, Samaria and Christopher. He is an active member of The Riveroak Church of God. He enjoys being outdoors gardening, working on his parent’s farm, and going to baseball and football games at any level. He has coached in the Dan River youth baseball and basketball leagues for several years.



Ryne Gammon, Assistant Principal

Ryne Gammon is a native of Danville, Virginia, and a graduate of George Washington High School. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education (PK–6) from Averett University in 2017 and went on to receive his Master’s degree in Educational Leadership – Administration and Supervision from the University of Lynchburg in 2020.

Mr. Gammon began his educational career at Kentuck Elementary School in Ringgold, where he spent seven years teaching across multiple grade levels, including Kindergarten, 2nd, 4th, and 5th grades. His passion for leadership and student success led him to become Assistant Principal at Chatham Elementary School during the 2024–2025 school year. In 2025, he took on a new role at Dan River Middle School as Assistant Principal, returning to the community he called home for the first seven years of his career. 

Mr. Gammon currently resides in Danville with his fiancée, Mackenzie. He is enthusiastic about continuing his educational journey and is honored to serve and support the students, staff, and families of Dan River Middle School.
